CCA Focus: MS Environmental Club and The Fundraising and Awareness Week @ 8:05 pm
Aziara Esham
MAKTAB SAINS PADUKA SERI BEGAWAN SULTAN

THE school's Environmental Club this year is run by five lovely teachers, Rodziah Abdullah, Ratni Ghani, Hazlin Zain, and newcomers Siti Dayanawati Daud and Aqilah Junaidi.

Having started this year with their level-by-level environmental talk in the school auditorium, the club is currently organising their 'Fundraising and Awareness Week', which will launch on the 8th of April and end on the 13th. Fatin, Jeerah and Syiqin of MA5 were kind enough to share some of their plans for said event, stating that there will be magic shows, exhibitions and sales booths on the opening ceremony. They also mentioned that students are encouraged to bring their own plates and spoons next Thursday if they plan to buy food from the school cafeteria, in hopes of reducing the use of environmentally hazardous plastics and styrofoam.

The teacher in charge, Rodziah Abdullah, added that the club is raising funds so they can afford to buy new recycle bins, hopefully enough for each class. She also wished to remind all students to keep using the recycling bins, in addition to disposing of their rubbish properly.

Hazlin Zain also got to answer some questions, saying, “The effort [in organising such a big event] is definitely worth it, because our students are passionate [about the environment]. It's not just about raising awareness in school, but it's also a matter of applying it outside of school.” She also believed that the club has been very effective so far in trying to raise awareness among the teachers and students.

The MS Environmental Club is no stranger to pulling off major events and activities in the school. Last year, they planted trees and sold off trees for adoption as part of their 'Heart of Borneo' campaign. Last year was also when they came up with the motto “Last plastic, be fantastic!” which they use to this day.

Others that have joined MS Environmental Club in organising the highly-anticipated anti-pollution campaign are Project V, Entrepreneurial Club, Energy Club and Pra-U2 Economics students.

The Fundraising and Awareness Week is a blend of fun activities and raising awareness to preserve the environment in hopes of a better, pollution-free future.
