MAKTAB Sains held its 35th Cross Country last Saturday, 6th March 2010. The event was organised by the P.E. Department and was aimed to raise competitive sportsmanship spirit and active participation amongst the teachers and students. The P.E. Department also hopes to nurture the sentiments of unity and teamwork in college individuals by holding this annual event.

This year was definitely a challenge for all students and teachers as the route was extended to 9km. A representative of the P.E. Department, Cikgu Masnurfaiza, explained that last year they have seen a majority of the students being able to complete the cross country earlier than expected. Thus, the organizers believed that the students could do better this year. She also mentioned that the standard distance for schools internationally is 10km, so they want Maktab Sains students to be on par with the other schools.

To ensure that the students’ and teachers’ casualties were dealt with as fast as possible, the school's First Aid team stood by, alert. A First Aid volunteer in charge of writing down the names of students being treated, Hafizhaah of MA 4A, said that there were roughly over thirty students who were taken into care by the team and only two of them were major cases. The First Aid team consists of more than twenty students stationed at three different venues: Gate C parking lot, behind the gym and inside the gym.

All in all, this year's Cross Country event would not have been a success if not for the dedication and sheer determination of our First Aid volunteers and the P.E. Department.
