Laksamana Swept to Victory @ 8:41 am

By Wiqa Halim

THE annual Maktab Sains Cross Country was held last Saturday, March 6, as hundreds of students as well as teachers endured the scorching hot morning sun and the sweltering heat.Runners were divided into 8 categories: male teachers, female teachers, MA 5 PU1 & PU2 boys, MA 5 PU 1 & PU 2 girls, Year 9 & MA 4 boys, Year 9 & MA 4 girls, Year 7 & Year 8 boys, Year 7 & 8 girls.

"I can't believe [that I won first place]" said Law Vi Chen, Year 8 N, of Hulubalang and added "I really wanted to win". Meanwhile, Hamizah bte Jumat, Year 8 A, of Hulubalang won first place for the Year 7 & Year 8 girls category.

For Leya Koh, Year 9 E, she told MS Minute that she "gave it her all" and eventually won first place. "I wanted to help [Laksamana] win" says Ephraim Reyes Leong, MA 4A, who first crossed the finishing line for the Year 9 & MA 4 category.

Laksamana's Lim Kok Sheng won third place and said that he is happy to win. Chua Lee Chue @ Lorena Chua said she participated in cross country because she wanted to win for Laksamana.

When students were asked why they joined cross country, Maktab Sains Basketball Captain, Dalton Lim said he wanted to “test his level of fitness” and Tamiimah Jefri, MA 5T, says "[running] is the only sport I can do very well".

Rumour had it that the Maktab Sains tradition to dump the winning house captain into the pond in the canteen was banned. This rumour, however, was proven false as teachers and students alike were entertained by the spectacle as the ceremony’s closing act.
