Chinese New Year: Fire Disaster @ 6:47 pm
By Nina Saiful

Personal tragedy is awful, painful and traumatic but it was ten times worse for a year 9 Maktab Sains student whose house was destroyed in a late night fire during Chinese New year three years ago.

The fire occured while Wee Vun and his family were out celebrating Chinese new Year. An electrical fuse near their home exploded, setting fire to their house.

Their shocked neighbors realised the house was on fire, phoned the "Bomba" and Wee Vun's family. Finally, a fire truck came to the rescue but it was too late. Everything was destroyed by the fire.

Fortunately, Wee Vun and his family were able to move into another house where they continue to live. Wee Vun states that, " the important thing was, nobody got hurt [in the fire] ".

"I felt no loss when my house burnt down," because of the good family and friends who supported him and his family. Unlike most people who experience awful tragedies like this, Wee Vun and his family did not lose their enthusiasm to celebrate Chinese New year the next year and every year after that.
