By Ziqa Ismail and Amal Nawawi Photos by Ziqa Ismail This is the first of our series entitled CCA Focus. Our focus club in this issue is Entrepreneurial Club. Our entrepreneurial colleagues are divided into five groups: Fruit Galore, MMA, Inc.Bum, Community Property and Abang Songkok. Hakim, Zirah, Azlan, Syiqin, Hazman, Najiah and Fifah like to call themselves the ‘Fruit Galore’. Having their business location set up at the intersection of the teacher’s cafeteria and the administration building on that day, the Fruit Galore was actually still testing locations. When asked why they form the group, spokesperson, Hakim, stated,“ it was for the purpose of making money and gaining business skills”. He went on to say that it was also a good chance to promote their marketing idea and interact with people. The second group, ‘MMA’, Makanan Minuman Awda consisting of Mateen, Asyraf, Muhd Afiq and Malik, had taken over the cafeteria. This group of Year 9 boys was marketing Nasi Lemak, Twisties and some key chains. They were testing the market to find out what the customers preferred. They even took the liberty to ask us things we would like to buy for $2 or below. There were two reasons to why they joined the club: Fun and Money. After talking to MMA, we went to another group who had also set up their business at the cafeteria area. These people were the ‘Inc. Bum’. Just looking at their transparent pink box full of cash placed on their table, we could tell that this group was running a successful business. Hafiz, Mashitah, Aimi, Arina and Lorena had Pop Mie, sausages, chicken pies and a brownie-like cake called Vico to offer their customers. These people stated that their reasons for starting the group were to make money, no surprise there!, and to gain experience. The fourth group, Community Property, was run by Wilson, Aiman, Danial, Shahrin and Hadi. This group mainly sold canned drinks for a dollar each, but, according to Aiman, they hope to broaden their horizons and be able to offer more variety next month. Examples of their products are 100 plus, Green Tea, Coke, Bandung, Fruit Tea and Pepsi. They are hoping to bring in food such as Nasi Katok, waffles and chocolate fountain by March. "[Business is going] very well! All of us are making money, so yeah, we're all happy," Wilson told MS Minute. Gerai Bang Songkok, was the last group to join Entrepreneurial Club and all its business fun. This group was run by Azlan, Afiq, Zulfadhly, Zulfadhli Ibnu, Iqbal and Azeerul. They only started their business recently by selling fresh IndoMee among other food, but from the looks of their queueing costumers, they seemed to be having an impressive start. We managed to meet the three teachers in charge of the club. They were Miss Aqilah, Miss Nabilah and Miss Balqis. Upon inquiring, Miss Aqilah told us that the aims of the club were, simply put, to make money and to allow the students to set up their own businesses. When asked why the students are divided into groups, she replied saying that the students had different products to sell and “obviously, they have their own groups of friends. Compared to last year, the number of students joining the club had increased to about forty which is a good start for the club in the year. Labels: Sports and CCA ★ |
